When arriving in Lam Vien plateau, it is not natural that the French chose Hon Ba mountain top (Cau Dat today) as a place to plant and export tea to the world. With the special soil and climate factors bestowed on Da Lat, Cau Dat tea flavor is a bit harsh and sweet end. In order to have that strong tea flavor, it is also thanks to the sunshine hatches of the cold area all year round, which gather on each tea bud - the essence of heaven and earth and those who make it.
In the 20s of the last century, the French mobilized more than 1,000 workers (workers were forced to work as feudal and colonial workers) from Quang Nam to Phu Yen provinces to explore and plant tea fulling in the hills around the top of Hon Ba. By 1927, Cau Dat L’Arbre Broyé Tea Department was established. French owners import modern machines, build the largest tea factory in Indochina.
Over nearly 100 years associated with all activities and cultures of people in Da Lat area from ancient times to now, Cau Dat tea hill seems to become a friend of the same cold country "growing up" everyday.
The tea workers of that day, they lived, worked and loved each other to give birth to children, to exploit the wild land, to form the rich Cau Dat as today. Nowadays, the generation of their great-grandchildren, following their fathers and grandfatthers to stick with the tea tree to survive and make a living.
After nearly 100 years of historical ups and downs, tea hills have changed owners many times. By 2015, Cau Dat Tea Department changed its name to Cau Dat Farm, under the management of Lam Dong People's Committee, cherished to bring a new wind to this place.
With a long process of integrating all activities and cultures of people in Da Lat from ancient times to now, Cau Dat tea hill seems to become a friend of the same cold country growing up every day. Moreover, tea hill is also the pride of people in this land, which has been associated with many generations of cultivation, taking care of tea leaves over the years.
When going to the hillside, a poetic scene appears right before the eyes. With an area of up to 230 hectares, Cau Dat tea hill is considered as the most outstanding and top quality check in place in Da Lat.
When visitors set foot on this land, right from the first seeing, it will must be overwhelmed, surprised by the green of tea hill.
